Cultural Information
- What do “hawn neen” and “hoy neen” mean? In Chinese
tradition, “Hawn Neen” means the closing of the old year and “Hoy
Neen” means the opening of the new year.
- What is the Spring Festival? The Spring Festival,
which, in the west is known as the Chinese New Year, is the oldest and most
important festival. It celebrates the beginning of Spring and the earth coming
back to life and also the start of the agricultural season.
- What is the Mid-Autumn or Moon Festival? The Mid-Autumn or Moon Festival is the second most important festival in the traditional Chinese calendar and occurs on the fifteenth day of the eighth month. The moon festival is celebrated in different ways in different parts of China, though it is most commonly celebrated by a family reunion dinner (in Chinese culture the full moon is a symbol of family reunion) where sweetened wine is drunk and lotus roots, water chestnuts and of course moon cakes eaten.

- How do I become a member of the Yee Fung Toy Association? To get more information
on becoming a member, please contact our office at (916) 448-6158, or
e-mail us. The purpose of our organization is to provide kinship and support
for all Yee family members of Sacramento. If you are a Yee family member
and not yet a member, you are welcome to join.
- What events are held every year? With the exception of the World Yee
Fung Toy Convention which is held every 3 years, our organization typically
holds or celebrates the following events every year:
- Chinese New Year / Spring Festival
- Dragon Boat Festival Celebration
- Yee Fung Toy Family Picnic
- Scholarship Awards Ceremony
- Mid-Autumn / Moon Fesitval Celebration
- Thanksgiving Celebration Events and Activities
- Primary Election of Association Officers
- What are the Scholarship Awards and how does one qualify? Every year, several students receive scholarships towards their education. A few students from the elementary school level, from the middle school level, from the high school level, and from the college level. Students who come in 4th, 5th or 6th place receive a complimentary award. See Scholarship Qualifications
